Corporate vs. Creative Interview Attire

    Posted on

I have gone on 8 interviews in the Big Apple since I arrived in May.  In 5/8 of those interviews I wore the same skirt and in 5/8 of those interviews I was offered the position.  Although I have now grown tired of this go-to interview skirt, I know it gives off the appropriate vibe for this industry and I now consider it my lucky skirt.  I feel confident when wearing it and feel as it reflects my true style.  That is how you want to feel when you go into an interview.  You want to stand out, fit the aesthetic of the position, company or industry you are trying to break into, and most importantly feel like yourself so you can shine!

An accountant and a fashion buyer are two different positions, hence they should not dress the same for an interview.  Here are some of Few Moda's best interview picks for Corporate vs. Creative positions.  I hope you find your lucky piece!

    •Pretty, Conservative Blouse

    (Special Collar Design Plain Blouse,

Instead of a basic button down, pick a pretty blouse with a little statement (such as this special collar) to let your style shine through.

    •Sharp Blazer

    (We Love Stripes Blazer Coat,

Go for a fitted blazer which is chic and feminine unlike a boring, boxy one.

    •Classic Skirt

    (100% Wool Two Pleats Skirt,

A simple, classic skirt is perfect for an interview and matches with just about anything.

    •Matching Top/Bottom Set

    (Summer Gingham Print Suit,

Matching sets are in and always look very put together.

    •Dress Shirt With A Twist

    (Chevron and Gingham Splicing Shirt,

Don't go for the ordinary.  This button down with unique detailing is still conservative and appropriate for an interview but shows a glimpse of your creativity.

    •Bold Dress

    (Smart Plaid Print Dress,

A bold dress is... BOLD!  Show them who you are and that you mean business.

Interviews are already nerve-racking enough, that is why having a great interview outfit is key - it's one less thing to worry about!  Along with your outfit, wear confidence and you will surely land where you are supposed to be.

Good luck on your next interview!

Maintaining Style During Summer in the City

    Posted on

I love New York, but my love for this city is tested on its sweltering hot and humid summer days.  On these days I find myself walking into my closet and staring at my clothes, not knowing what to wear in order to remain cool and avoid dying from heat stroke while out on the town.  It has been a process of trial and error, but after two months of my first summer in the city, I can say that I have picked up some knowledge on how to wear what I want and still look chic on those 90 degree days...

Every girl needs summer street style staples. Here are a few of mine along with some fashion formulas:

    ‌•A statement tank top.

    (Tommy Rainbow Stripes Tank,

I love a cute tank because they are simple and easy to style.

    Style your tank with:

a tennis skirt or cropped dark wash jeans + a stylish pair of sneakers + a crisp baseball cap = your sporty yet chic summer look

    ‌•An easy and breezy dress.

    (Special Design Shirt Dress,

Who doesn’t love something you can throw on and still look put together?  A light, white summer dress gives off an effortless vibe and is perfect for walking the streets.

    Style your white dress with:

a comfortable sandal + a pop of color (on your lip or an accessory) = your easy, breezy summer look

    ‌•A pair of colored shorts.

    (So Simple Shorts,

Red represents confidence. These bright pair of shorts paired with a simple top is another easy way of maintaining a fun summer style when it’s hot out.

    Style your colored shorts with:

a light button up + a statement belt = your preppy summer look

    ‌•An off the shoulder top.

    (Off the Shoulder Top,

Off the shoulder tops are this summer’s biggest trend.  They are the perfect way of looking fashionable while showing some skin.

Style your off the shoulder top with:

a white short or skinny jean + a fun earring = your bold summer look

Dressing up is fun and makes me feel ready to conquer the day.  These looks will make your every day activities look chic, even if you are just running to the grocery store. ;)

The necklace  phenomenally brings out the key elements and colors of the printed skirt she wears, acting as the perfect piece to bring the outfit together. In the image above, the outfit screams chic yet edgy from the dress to the jacket. The earrings are essential to this look, being the perfect combination of both edgy and chic.
